The Birth of CoDEM

Desired by the Regional Council of Picardie and its president Claude Gewerc the CODEM Picardy was born November 15th , 2007 (Constituent Assembly) in Amiens.
Its creation was based on two points:
• A commission dedicated to construction industry, for the preparation of SRDE (“Schéma Regional pour le développement Economique”) in 2006 (chaired by Jean-Jacques Blangy (President of CODEM Picardie) and desired by Claude Gewerc). The findings of the commission emphasized that the construction industry and public works needed to be innovative to be more competitive.
• The agro-industrial tradition of Picardy, the presence of global competitiveness cluster IAR ("Industry and Agro-Resources") since 2005, combined with skills and experience of different research and transfer structures have also justified the establishment of a regional tool for the development of eco and agro-materials and sustainable construction.

Funders

The CODEM is primarily funded by the Regional Council of Picardie. Mission QECB (Environmental Quality of the built environment) is the subject of a grant-Europe-ADEME Picardie Region in the FREDEME (Regional Fund for the Environment, Energy Conservation, Waste and Eco industry).

Strategy

The association's strategy rests on three major areas: transfer, research and development
Our studies are conducted in order to sustain the socio-economic activity involving the local farming community from the extraction into the early transformations of matter.
The technical expertise we offer includes the following:
• Characterization: Mechanical, thermal, chemical durability, biodegradability.
• Processes: Synthesis, Formulation, Formatting.
• Projects: Benefits, Contract research, collaborative projects.
